Travel Baseball

Competitive travel team play built on the same principles that define everything we do. Three seasons, top-tier tournaments, small rosters, and a coaching approach that treats every game as a development opportunity, not just a result on a scoreboard.

Ages 8–15 Spring / Summer / Fall 12 Players Per Team (Max 13)

Program Overview

Our travel teams compete in top-tier tournaments across the tri-state region and beyond. Our program prepares players to meet the physical and mental demands of that level, with clear, objective communication about the work each player must put in. Our instruction and preparation are one half of the equation; the player's dedication and commitment are the other. We encourage players to dream big, but remind them that in this game, you get what you put in. There are no shortcuts, no matter how talented the player, and no limits to what a strong, consistent work ethic can achieve.

Season Structure

Spring Season

First week of April – First or second week of June

League play or tournament play begins in April with weekend games and weekday / Saturday practices. Teams practice 2 times per week with games on Sundays and select Saturdays.

Summer Season

Third week of June – First week of August

3 league games per week (weekday & weekend), 3 weekday afternoon practices, local and out of city tournaments.

Fall Season

First week of September – First or second week of November

League play or tournament play begins in September with weekend games and weekday / Saturday practices. Teams practice 2 times per week with games on Sundays and select Saturdays.

Practice & Schedule

Practices

2 practices per week during the season. Practices are 2 hours in duration and develop hitting, fielding, situational work, and live reps. Practices provide a very active, competitive environment that promotes Team bonding and a Team first mindset.

Game Days

Games are primarily on Sundays with select Saturday doubleheaders. Tournament weekends are weekend long. Most games are within the NYC metro area, with occasional travel to regional tournaments in NJ, CT, Long Island NY and Myrtle Beach SC.

Locations

Our home fields are located on Randall's Island Park, just off the Triborough Bridge (Robert F. Kennedy Bridge) and easily accessible from the FDR Drive in either direction as well as the 2nd Avenue on-ramp. We also hold permits for additional NYC Parks Department baseball fields across Manhattan. We provide transportation to and from our weekday practices and training on Randall's Island, with pickups from the player's school or a designated pickup spot coordinated with the family. Indoor facilities with batting cages and training equipment are used during pre-season, inclement weather, and winter sessions. All locations are selected for field quality, safety, and accessibility.

Tournaments & Competition

Each season includes a mix of league games and tournament play. All Spring, Summer and Fall teams compete in structured league schedules with playoff formats plus the tournament schedule. Our tournament schedule features some of the top youth baseball tournaments in the Northeast. Our tournament experiences are ideal for Team and family togetherness and bonding.

Coaching

Every travel team is led by an experienced head coach supported by the directors of player development and assistant coaches. Our coaching staff shares our principles and our commitment to execution. The same individualized approach that drives our training carries directly onto the field, each player's developmental path informs how they're coached in games, what situations they're placed in, and how feedback is delivered. We don't run a one size fits all system. We coach the player in front of us, adapt to what they need, and communicate adjustments in the way that can best reach them. Coaches maintain open communication with families throughout the season, providing feedback on development, playing time philosophy, and individual progress. The developmental continuity we build in training doesn't stop on game day, it's the foundation of it.

12 Players Per Team

We keep rosters small intentionally. With 12 players per team (maximum 13), every athlete gets meaningful attention and focus. The size of the roster affects playing time, real at-bats, and genuine defensive reps.

What's Included

Full season of competitive league and tournament play
Parent Portal access: a personal development profile for your player, updated by our coaches throughout the season, plus direct coach-to-parent messaging
A complete written skills evaluation and development plan for every player who tries out, whether or not they make the roster
Minimum 3 top tier tournament entries per season
Pre-season and camp days included with season registration

Age Groups

Travel teams are organized by age division: 8U, 9U, 10U, 11U, 12U, 13U, 14U, and 15U. Team placement is based on age eligibility and evaluated skill level. Players are assessed during tryouts for both ability and fit within the team structure. In select cases, players may be placed up an age group based on demonstrated readiness.

Tryouts

Open tryouts are held before at the end of each season, October-November for the Spring Season, May-June for Fall, December-January for Summer. Tryout dates are published and updated on our site and through our communication channels. We evaluate players on core skills, coachability, attitude, and competitive character. Every player who tries out receives a complete written evaluation of their skill set and a plan for how we'd drive their development, whether or not they make the roster; it's not a test, it's the first step. Roster decisions and evaluations are communicated within one week of tryouts.

Player Evaluation

Included with Every Tryout

Every Tryout Includes a Complete Evaluation

Every player who tries out receives a complete evaluation of their skill set and a plan for how we'd drive their development, whether or not they make the roster. It's not a test; it's the first step. During tryouts our coaches evaluate every fundamental area of the game: throwing mechanics, hitting approach, fielding technique, baserunning instincts, positional awareness, and baseball IQ. The goal is to build an honest, detailed picture of the complete player.

Identifying What Matters Most

Every player has strengths and every player has areas that need work. What sets our evaluation apart is prioritization. We don't hand you a list of twenty things to fix, we identify the highest-priority elements of the player's skill set that will drive the most meaningful improvement. The things that, once addressed, unlock everything else.

A Development Path Forward

From this analysis, we map a development path, not a rigid plan, but a clear direction. We determine how to drive the most effective efficiencies to address the player's long-term development. Where should the focus go first? What gains are available now? What needs time and repetition? This is the starting point of a real conversation about growth, built on what we actually see, not assumptions, not guesswork.

Who This Is For

Every player who tries out for our travel teams, no separate sign-up needed. Players joining Travel Development or Diamond Rookies receive a baseline evaluation when they start, sized to their age, so every family begins with a clear picture of where their player is. For rostered players, the evaluation becomes the starting point of their Parent Portal development profile, and the conversation about growth continues all season.

"We have consistently seen positive results and development from players who commit to putting in the extra work. Baseball is the same at 8 years old and at 16 years old, the only differences are the distance between the bases and the speed of the game."

About Us

The most complete baseball development in NYC, built on growth-driven coaching, objective player development, and an ethos that never stops at good enough. Founded on nearly 20 years of elite-level coaching experience, Diamond Primed has developed hundreds of young athletes with one belief at the center of everything: develop players for baseball and for life.

Four principles that shape how we teach, how we compete, and how our players and families experience the program, and the game itself. These aren't slogans, they're deeply ingrained in our daily standard and permeate every rep, every pitch, and every swing.

Diamond Primed Baseball tradition of youth development in NYC since 2009

TRADITION

To step onto the baseball diamond is to step into the richest tradition in all of sports. Part of our mission is to honor that tradition, and to instill it in every player. The best part of this game brings out the best in every player. Tradition connects us to something bigger than ourselves: to the team, to the all-time greats, to the family memories built around this game, and to the future generations who will learn it from us.

Inspiring young baseball players through expert coaching in Manhattan

INSPIRATION

Once tradition provides the context, inspiration is what happens when a player decides to find their place in it. It's the desire to chase their baseball dreams, to be the one standing in the box in the bottom of the 9th, 2 outs, 3-2 count. Every young ballplayer has played that moment in their mind. That's inspiration: the moment a player starts to own their journey. From there, deeper questions arise, how do I prepare my mind and body to have the most impact on my goals? How do I turn what I want into what I do? The discipline, focus, and problem-solving that come from working through those questions don't stay on the diamond. They become formulas a player will use many times over in life beyond baseball.

Passionate youth baseball coaching and player development NYC

PASSION

When inspiration deepens, it becomes passion. Passion feeds hustle. Passion feeds focus. Passion feeds love. We know that by cultivating a love for this game, we are deepening the reservoir from which a player draws motivation, not just for baseball, but for every worthwhile challenge they'll face. A player with passion shows up ready, every time.

Building respect and sportsmanship in NYC youth baseball

RESPECT

Respect is the environment where tradition, inspiration, and passion have their deepest and most lasting impact. Respect shapes tradition, how players and everyone around the field interact with the game and with each other. Respect shapes inspiration, how a player sees and values themselves and those around them. Respect shapes passion, how a player lives and expresses that passion in a way that is considerate of teammates, opponents, coaches, and umpires. Without respect, the other three don't hold. With it, they grow deep roots.

Coaching & Player Development

Individualized Approach

Our coaching adapts to each player. We focus on what sets every player apart, their mechanics, their learning style, their strengths, and their challenges, and we respond with the individual approach and communication that fits them best. That individual plan is documented in each player's Parent Portal profile, so families see the approach built for their player, not a generic one.

Fundamentals & Execution

We are firm believers in the fundamentals of the game and know they are the common foundation of development. But we do not implement a uniform system of development. The uniformity we strive for is in the level of execution, each player will have a unique path toward that goal. That path is developed and implemented by the program directors / coaches and lives in the Portal, where families can see where their player is on it.

Technology & Measurement

We achieve this by taking the time to learn each player deeply, and by providing active, detailed feedback to both the player and their family. We value technology as an aid to development, but not as a substitute for effective, tailored coaching. We use objective measurements, radar gun readings, skill benchmarks, seasonal evaluations, so players and families can see real, measurable progress. But the measurements serve the coaching. The coaching never serves the measurements. A readout can tell you what's happening. Only a highly effective coach can tell you why, and what to do about it. The measurements that matter for each player, and the coaching context behind them, reach families through the on-field instructions and live in the Parent Portal.

What Sets Us Apart

In youth baseball, coaching typically comes from two places: playing experience or formal certifications and academic preparation. Both are valuable, and both bring structure to the process. But the ability to observe how a player's body moves, understand why it moves that way, recognize how it differs from the next player, and communicate the right adjustment in the right way (relational dynamics of movement), that's something different. That's what we bring. And what we see, we share, so families understand the adjustment as well as the player does.

Developmental Continuity

Our coaching staff shares our principles and our commitment to execution. We also share with them the responsibility of continuity, ensuring that each player's individual approach carries forward from one season to the next, one coach to the next, without gaps. That context is held at the organization level, by our program directors as well as our coaches, and the Parent Portal is where it lives, an effective aid to the live, personal on-field communication that every season builds on. Development doesn't reset. It builds.

Locations, Facilities & Transportation

Our home fields are located on Randall's Island Park, just off the Triborough Bridge (Robert F. Kennedy Bridge) and easily accessible from the FDR Drive in either direction as well as the 2nd Avenue on-ramp. We also hold permits for additional NYC Parks Department baseball fields across Manhattan. We provide transportation to and from our weekday practices and training on Randall's Island, with pickups from the player's school or a designated pickup spot coordinated with the family. Our indoor training partnerships ensure year-round development regardless of weather, and we invest in the tools our players need to train at a high level. We also understand that getting to the field is half the battle for NYC families, so we work to keep access fair and consistent.

Communication

We believe families should be as connected to their player's development as the coaching staff. Through our Parent Portal, every family has full individual access to their player's highly detailed developmental path and the execution of that path, updated by our coaches throughout the season, with direct coach-to-parent messaging in the same place. Our communication is centralized, consistent, and designed to keep parents informed, not just about schedules and logistics, but about what their player is working on, where they're progressing, and what comes next. When families can see the process, they trust the process.

Community & Culture

Diamond Primed is not just a laser focus on developing baseball players. Every player and every family that joins this program becomes part of ours. We strive to help build relationships that go deeper than lineups and box scores, and our hope is that through those bonds, we become a community that shares more than the best memories on a baseball field. We share the best of each other.

The people behind the player development, experienced, invested, and committed to doing it right.

Jose Marte, Head Coach & Director of Operations

Jose Marte

Head Coach & Director of Operations

Jose Marte is responsible for the program's overall structure, from league play and tournament selection to practice logistics and transportation. How those pieces come together is guided by one measure: how well the season serves the players' development and the way families experience it.

That same standard is driven by his passion and ability to develop baseball skills and character in every one of our teams and players. He doesn't coach through a uniform system. What sets his approach apart is the ability to see how a player's body moves, understand why it moves that way, recognize how it differs from the next player, and deliver the one adjustment, in the way that reaches that individual, that actually moves them forward. The standard he holds is uniform in the level of execution it demands.

He was coaching and developing players at the highest levels of the game in New York City before a true travel baseball scene had taken shape here, and over the past 17 years he has had the privilege of working with hundreds of young ballplayers from the Upper East Side, the Upper West Side, and across the city. He looks forward to working with many more as they start or continue their baseball journey.

Vicente Marte, Head Coach & Director of Player Development

Vicente Marte

Head Coach & Director of Player Development

Vicente Marte serves as Director of Player Development, leading training across the program, from private lessons to small-group and situational, game-based work. His particular strength is preparing players for the most demanding competitive situations, because he has led teams of every age through them. An elite head coach and a master of in-game strategy, he brings the standard of high-level competition directly into how players train.

He can be as competitive and demanding as the game requires, yet he also knows how to teach the game with a soft touch for younger players, always meeting each player where they start and building from there. He is unique in making the repetitions, and the focus they demand, feel like the sandlot, while still making every training situation as real as the game itself, because he knows he will be right there with these players when those moments arrive for real, and that shared experience is exactly what the training is preparing them for.

As with our program, the standard he holds is uniform in the level of execution it demands.

Raymond Blanco, Head Coach & Logistics & Schedules

Raymond Blanco

Head Coach & Logistics & Schedules

Raymond Blanco has coached with Diamond Primed for over five years, working with our younger players on the fundamentals of the game and on maintaining a positive outlook in any circumstance the game presents. He has been instrumental in keeping the program’s "never give up, never give in" mindset alive. Raymond grew up in the game from an early age, on the ballfield with his dad and his brothers, and he brings that part of his life, and the value of family the game gave him, onto the field every time he steps on it. He holds players to the same standard and coaches within the same method that runs through the whole program.

Adrian Blanco, Head Coach & Lead 60/90 Coach

Adrian Blanco

Head Coach & Lead 60/90 Coach

Adrian Blanco has coached with Diamond Primed since its foundation, working with our older players on the 60/90 transition and the big-field dynamics that come with it. He has led our 60/90 teams into pitched battles from South Carolina to Maryland, New Jersey, Connecticut, and up and down New York State, and he emphasizes discipline and respect at every turn, for the game, for teammates, for coaches, and for parents. Adrian grew up in the game surrounded by family and led by his dad, and that sense of family runs deep in how he coaches. He understands that the bonds formed on the field, between teammates, coaches, and parents, can last a lifetime. He holds players to the same standard and coaches within the same method that runs through the whole program.

Angel Almonte, 9U/10U Coach

Angel Almonte

9U/10U Coach

Angel Almonte coaches our 9U and 10U players, with a real gift for helping them feel comfortable and confident in game situations. He emphasizes the fundamentals of clean mechanics while helping each player find their mental and emotional balance, and this past spring he helped guide our 8U/9U team to a tremendous season. He holds players to the same standard and coaches within the same method that runs through the whole program.

Edwin Ponce, 11U Coach

Edwin Ponce

11U Coach

Edwin Ponce coaches our 11U team, bringing joy and positivity in equal measure. He motivates players to play the game with heart, purpose, and intensity, all while keeping a big smile on their faces, and he lifts the team’s experience through the tough games and the grind of a long season. He holds players to the same standard and coaches within the same method that runs through the whole program.

We also have a terrific roster of assistant coaches, made up of several current and former college players.

Travel Development

Structured to bring the game to life, in the mind and on the field. At this level, learning a skill and understanding its purpose go hand in hand. We teach both, because one without the other only goes so far.

Ages 6–8 Saturdays Diamond Fundamentals

Program Overview

Travel Development is where players take their first real step into the game. Not just swinging a bat or catching a ball, but understanding what they're doing and why. Every skill we teach comes with context. Players learn how to throw properly and what a proper throw accomplishes. They learn fielding footwork and why their feet determine everything about the play. They learn to hit with a purpose and to run the bases with awareness. The skill and the reason behind it are always taught together.

Sessions are structured around focused skill work that flows directly into live scrimmage. Players practice, then they play. They drill the throw, then make the throw in a real situation. That connection, from the drill to the game, is where skills become habits, and habits become instincts. It's also where young players begin to experience baseball as a thinking game, not just a physical one.

Every player at this level gets real coaching attention. We take the time to find the best approach for each individual, because the foundation built here is the one they'll build on for the rest of their baseball journey.

Who This Is For

Travel Development is for the 6–8 year old who already loves the game and is ready to work at it: a player who can follow instruction in a group, wants to compete in live game situations, and is building toward travel baseball. If your player is brand new to the game, Diamond Rookies is the right first step; when they're ready, this is where they come next.

Session Structure

Skill Development

Small Group Instruction

Structured repetitions across throwing mechanics, fielding footwork, hitting fundamentals, and base running, each skill taught alongside its purpose. Small group sizes mean every rep is actively coached. Players aren't just going through motions; coaches are watching, adjusting, and reinforcing correct patterns from the start.

Live Scrimmage

Game Situations

Skill work connects directly into live game situations every session. Scrimmage gives players the chance to execute what they've drilled under real conditions, reading a batted ball, making a throw with a runner moving, stepping into the box against live pitching. The competitive environment is where fundamentals get tested and where real growth gets revealed.

Individual Focus

Coached to the Individual

Every player develops at their own rate, and we coach to that reality. Within every session, coaches identify what each player is working through, a mechanical adjustment, a new concept, a confidence issue, and find the approach that reaches them. The group develops together. Each player develops as themselves.

Practice & Schedule

Sessions

Saturday sessions run for 2 hours, with a tight structure built for the attention span and energy level of a 6–8 year old. The format is consistent week to week so players know what to expect when they show up. Families receive a season session calendar in advance, and any schedule changes are communicated with clear advance notice.

Season

The program runs in spring from the first week of April to the first week of June and fall from the first week of September to the first week of November, with additional development available year-round through our Year-Round Training offerings. Spring enrollment opens in the previous fall season and fall enrollment opens in the previous spring season period. Families on our mailing list are notified through our communication channels when registration windows open. The enrollment period will also be indicated here on our upcoming events calendar. Early enrollment is strongly encouraged, space is limited by design.

Locations

Sessions are held at maintained field locations across Manhattan, including Randall's Island Park, Central Park and other fields and parks throughout Manhattan. During inclement weather, sessions move to indoor facilities with training equipment and batting cages. All locations are selected for field quality, safety, and parent accessibility.

Coaching

Coaching 6–8 year olds well is a skill. It requires patience and precision in equal measure, the ability to deliver real instruction in a way that lands for a player at this age. Our coaches don't simplify the game to the point where nothing meaningful is being taught. They meet players where they are and give them the genuine coaching attention they need to actually improve.

Players receive real feedback, corrections, adjustments, and recognition of what they're doing well, delivered in a way that builds their confidence alongside their skill. Coaches maintain direct communication with families throughout the program. Parents aren't kept at a distance from their child's development; they're considered part of it.

No Detail Is Too Small. No Challenge Too Great.

Every player at this level gets real coaching attention. We take the time to find the best approach for each individual, because the foundation built here is the one they'll build on for the rest of their baseball journey.

Diamond Rookies

The game has to be felt before it can be learned. Diamond Rookies is where that feeling begins, built on tradition, fueled by passion, and designed to start a relationship with baseball that lasts a lifetime.

Ages 5–6 Afterschool · Weekday Afternoons Introduction to the Game

Program Overview

Diamond Rookies is where the relationship begins. Not just with baseball's skills, but with the game itself. Through movement, play, and age-appropriate instruction, our youngest players are introduced to throwing, catching, hitting, and running the bases in a way that makes the game feel like theirs from day one.

Every session is built around energy and engagement. Kids at this age learn through doing, through feeling, through the joy of movement on a field. We channel that energy into foundational athletic development and early baseball skills, always keeping the experience fun, always keeping it real.

Diamond Rookies is where that lifelong relationship starts.

Who This Is For

Diamond Rookies is for the 5–6 year old who is new to the game, no experience needed, only curiosity and energy. It's the introduction: learning to throw, catch, hit, and run the bases through play. When a player is ready for the next step, structured skill work and live game situations, our Saturday Travel Development program is where they go next.

Session Structure

Play & Movement

Coordination & Energy

The best memories of the game are always connected to the first memories of running, throwing, and feeling the joy of movement on the field. We start there. Movement-based activities that develop coordination, balance, and physical confidence. This is the athletic foundation that every baseball skill is built on. But more than that, this is where passion takes root. The energy players bring to these sessions is the same energy that has filled ballfields for over a century. We channel it, focus it, and let it carry the session forward.

Skill Introduction

Throwing, Catching & Hitting

Throwing, catching, and batting are introduced through play, simplified, age-appropriate, and always connected to their purpose in the game. When a player makes their first throw, they are not just learning a motion. They are learning the rhythm that will mark their memories on a baseball field. Every skill has a rhythm that weaves its way into each player's heart.

On the Bases

Running & Game Awareness

Baseball is a thinking game, and that begins here. The bases are where the player starts to feel the strategy at the heart of the sport: reading a live ball, knowing where to run, understanding what just happened and what comes next. Even at 5 and 6, players experience that moment of awareness, and it's one of baseball's great gifts. Introduced in a joyful, low-pressure setting, this is where respect for the game begins to form. Not just running the bases, learning to play them.

Sessions & Schedule

Session Structure

Sessions run for 60 minutes, sized right for the attention span and energy of a 5–6 year old. The structure is consistent week to week so players know what to expect when they arrive.

After School, Weekday Afternoons

Diamond Rookies is an afterschool program built to fit the rhythm of a family's week. Players come straight from school, get onto the grass, and spend time in an active, coached environment that develops skills and friendship in equal measure. Because it lives on weekday afternoons, it never competes with your weekend, and it gives young players a consistent routine they can count on.

Season

The program runs in spring and fall seasons, with additional training options available through our Year-Round Training offerings.

Locations

Sessions are held on the open grass areas of Central Park and other Manhattan parks. At this age the game doesn't need a diamond, it needs space to run, throw, and play, and Central Park's open fields are ideal for it. All locations are selected for safety, accessibility, and the right environment for 5–6 year old players to play and learn.

Coaching

Our Diamond Rookies coaches understand how to deliver real instruction in a way that's fun, age-appropriate, and genuinely effective. The goal is simple: every player walks off the field having learned something and wanting to come back. Coaches communicate directly with families throughout the program, parents are considered a part of the process, not observers from a distance.

Diamond Rookies isn't just an introduction to baseball, it's where young players take their first step into a game that will stay with them for life.

What's Included

Play-based instruction in throwing, catching, hitting, and base running every session
Movement and coordination activities building the athletic foundation for baseball

Diamond Futures Camps

Intensive camp sessions in March, June, and August, combining high-volume skill work with competitive games and position-specific instruction. An immersive development experience built around school breaks.

Ages 5–14 March / June / August 9 AM – 2 PM Daily

Program Overview

Diamond Futures Camps are where development can take place in longer sessions. Five hours a day, five days a week, dedicated entirely to the game. For players ages 5 through 14, these camps are the most immersive baseball experience Diamond Primed offers, and they're designed to show every camper what focused, intentional training can do for their long term development.

Players are grouped by age bracket, so instruction is always calibrated to the right level. The youngest campers are building foundational skills in an environment that keeps the game fun and accessible. The older players are working with a level of intensity and detail that mirrors what competitive development looks like. Every age group gets the same commitment. The method just meets them where they are.

Three camps. Three windows during the school year where players can step away from the daily routine and put real time into the game.

Daily Structure

Skill Work

Every camp day opens with structured skill instruction, grouped by age bracket, position-appropriate, and high-volume. Hitting mechanics, fielding fundamentals, throwing, pitching, and catching are all part of the rotation. Coaches work closely with each group to deliver instruction that's specific, purposeful, and built to stick. Five hours a day gives us the time to go deep on the things that matter.

Competitive Games

What's learned in skill work gets implemented in game play. Live scrimmages and competitive game situations are built into every camp day, instruction and application in the same session. This is where development becomes visible: adjustments click, reads get faster, and the game starts to slow down in the players mind but the execution quickens in the players hands and feet. Competitive play is the result.

Locations

March camp is held at Randall's Island, with transportation provided from Manhattan. June and August camps are held on the North Meadow Fields in Central Park. All venues are selected for field quality, safety.

Coaching

Camp coaches are the same Diamond Primed coaches who run our year-round program coaches. They know the players, and they bring the same standard to the camp setting that families expect from every Diamond Primed program. Communication with families throughout the camp is direct and consistent. Parents know what's being worked on and how the players are responding.

A memorable baseball experience as a development ramp into every season.

This is what focused, intentional development looks like. Three camps. Three windows during the year to put real time into the game.
